Volunteers pack 100 hampers helping 337 people have a brighter Christmas

Caring hands gathered together on Thursday, Dec. 20 at the Tofield Community Hall to put together almost 100 Christmas hampers for those needing help to make the holidays a little brighter.

This Christmas, the number of hampers increased by 16. This meant that a total of 337 people in the communities of Tofield and Ryley, and rural areas around them, received a hamper.

Also, there were 163 gifts for children based on requests on the Angel Trees set up in the local post offices.

Making the hampers up took the entire day, starting with pre-packing the food and gifts into the hall that had been gathered over the past month from various events and donations.

This included the donations gathered during a competition at the December Peewee hockey tournament, “which was a bonus,” said Vanita Eglauer. Volunteers included adults from the community and students working after school hours.
