Author and illustrator captivates C.W. Sears students with books and canvas

Camrose based author and illustrator Darcy Polny visited C.W. Sears Elementary School on May 30th.

He captivated the students showcasing his two children’s picture books, “Jelly Bean Jake,” and his latest book, which is based on his father’s tractor made from airplane parts, “Stay Away From the Barn.”

With a blank, rust coloured matt canvas, Polny vibrantly started an illustration of a typical farm scene using pastels. Five lucky students then added simple det-ails of grass and sky to artwork. The completed and signed illustration will grace the walls of C.W. Sears School.

To end the session, each child took home a picture of themselves as either a jelly bean or a bumble bee, which were the two thematic elements of each story.
