UPDATED: 1 officer shot, another run over by vehicle NW of Tofield, all suspects in custody after standoff

Update: 7 am, Jan. 7/15. Situation under control. Three suspects are reportedly under arrest early Tuesday following a gunfight the previous night at a rural property NW of Tofield, that saw one RCMP officer grazed with a bullet and another seriously injured after being run over with a stolen truck.

2:07 am, Jan. 7/14: No firm confirmation on third person in custody as originally reported, so possible standoff still on with the shooter. News breaking down in early hours of the day.

Two suspects now reported arrested, possible residents of the house, shooter still apparently on the loose. Both injured RCMP are expected to survive the incident.

A call to RCMP about an armed man who was “about to commit a murder” led to a gunfight on a rural Alberta property Monday that saw one officer shot and another seriously injured after being run over by a truck.

The incident began around 2 pm Monday afternoon and escalated throughout the evening and into the early hours of Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014.

Update: two suspects inside, scene contained. Chief Supt. Randy McGinnis said injured officers were from Two Hills & Vegreville.

Roadblocks are reported to be up at RR 192 and Township Rd. 522 NW of Tofield in what is believed to be a possible shooting in which RCMP have been injured, said Sgt. Josee Valiquette.

She, however, could not comment on the nature of the injuries.

The incident is reported to be an “ongoing situation,” and three armed and dangerous suspects are at large in connection.
