Satellites clinch first place in the BRHL for the first time ever

Tofield Satellites downed defending champions North Stars in Days-land Saturday evening to clinch first place for the first time ever since entering the Senior AA Battle River Hockey League.

Satellites accomplished its great feat with only 12 skaters, and missing four of its top eight scorers plus possibly the BRHL’s best defenceman, Greg Holmberg, coming off a brilliant game Friday night against Big Valley.

Satellites jumped in front 2-0 in the first period when league leading scorer Ryan Olson connected from Joel Tessier and Tyler Hennessey, and then Tessier scored from Ryan Olson.

North Stars came back with a power play goal in the opening frame, and tied the score after two. Daysland took a 3-2 lead at 5:11 of the third period before Shayne Carlson notched the score again, assisted by hard working Doug Woiken and Chris Dawn. Carlson is having a huge year on defence for Tofield, not only playing solidly but adding offence to his production this year.
