Former Fort Saskatchewan mayor Jim Sheasgreen was ready and willing to meet Tofield and area constituents in his quest to be the P.C. nominee for Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville in the next provincial election.

However, few attended the meet and greet at the Tofield Golden Club from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12.

But Sheasgreen was quick to give the nod to local candidate and Tofield Mayor Nabil Chehayeb as a possible reason for the low turnout to his meet and greet.

“I think Nabil’s got some very good support here,” he said. Sheasgreen is a two-term mayor of the City of Fort Saskatchewan, having just ended his second term in 2010. Now he wants to take up the mantle being left by local MLA and former premier Ed Stelmach, who is stepping down as MLA at the end of his term.
