Battle River School Division’s board of trustees passed three motions regarding student assessment Feb. 27 that caused a stir around the province.

The motions were interpreted initially as a reversal of the latest high school assessment policy that was to implement numeric grades. Many were celebrating a false impression that the board had decided to return to percentage grades.

The Administrative Procedure 360 (AP 360) has not been a popular policy for many students and their parents, who feel this achievement-based grading system does little justice to the work done by students.

They point to the new marking system creating problems for students trying to get scholarships and entrance into post-secondary education facilities.
