Police kept busy investigating two restaurant break-ins same evening

Uncle Roger’s front door was smashed in by thieves who took money from four cash registers around 3:30 a.m. last Friday…

The thieves were fast workers, opening three registers manually and taking a fourth with them that they couldn’t access while inside the restaurant.

This includes the areas of the restaurant and the lounge in back.

RCMP arrived about 13 minutes after the restaurant’s alarm system went off, but the thieves were long gone, said owner Angela Schmutz. She had been kept busy all morning dealing with getting her front glass door replaced so customers could once again access the restaurant via the front of the building.

Plus, the police were also busy investigating the scene, and fingerprinting the entire front area. Any customers had to go through the back door to access the restaurant area.

RCMP Commander Sgt. Doug Coleman reports that there was another break-in at a restaurant in Ryley that same night. Cash registers were attacked… For more see the March 25/14 issue of the Tofield Mercury
