Three-term Tofield Mayor Nabil Chehayeb had his family by his side Saturday while holding an open house to shore up local support for his candidacy for the P.C. riding nomination in Fort-Saskatchewan-Vegreville.

With a provincial election expected this spring, the nomination process to replace local MLA Ed Stelmach, the former premier, is drawing to a close. A vote-off will be held on Wednesday in Vegreville. Five candidates are running for the privilege of replacing Stelmach, who will step down at the end of this term.

The candidates for the nomination are: Tofield Mayor Chehayeb, former Beaver County Councillor Gene Hrabec, Strathcona County Councillor Jacquie Fenske, Vegreville Councillor Adam Kozakiewicz, and former Fort Saskatchewan mayor Jim Sheasgreen.
