ASIRT finds no wrongdoing on the part of three RCMP officers in shooting north of Tofield

ASIRTReport-Feb.3-15

RCMP involved in a shooting incident a year ago north of Tofield have been cleared of any wrongdoing.

A year-long investigation by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), as directed by the Director of Law Enforcement, has concluded with no wrongdoing found on the part of three officers who became involved in a firefight with a robbery suspect.

Two of the officers were wounded, one with a flesh wound from a gun, the other from being run over by the suspect.

Both were from the Vegreville RCMP Detachment, which had been called in to investigate after after two rural residences had been broken into and property, including firearms, had been stolen.

The investigation led them to what the RCMP called “an associate” of the person they were seeking for the crimes. The property was located within the Tofield RCMP Detachment north of Tofield.
