Incinerator appeal hearing set for April 23 – Four local board members become ineligible after declaring bias or conflict of interest

With four board members declaring a conflict of interest or bias in the case, local jurisdictions are recruiting a person from outside the county to help determine if G-M Pearson should be allowed to build its bio-medical waste incinerator at Ryley.

The Joint Subdivision and Development Appeal Board has a roster of nine people from which to make up a board of five for appeals on a decision by the county’s development authority.

The county rejected an application by G-M Pearson to build a bio-medical waste incinerator at Equity Industrial Park. G-M Pearson is appealing that denial and an SDAB hearing is slated for April 23.

With four of the nine SDAB members declaring a conflict of interest or bias, and one other undeclared, this leaves only four local people to make up the board. They include Gene Hrabec, Al Reynolds, Rosemary Harris and Evie Kuz. Another ad hoc person is expected to be chosen from three County of Camrose SDAB members, including Tony Thomsen (Bittern Lake), Shelly Moch (rural Camrose) and Kathleen Tennant (Bawlf).
