The Town of Tofield asked that Beaver County sign a memorandum of understanding between the two jurisdictions regarding support for a new community centre to serve both urban and rural area residents.

The memorandum states that the Town of Tofield “has an identified preliminary need for a new community centre of 500 plus seats to service regional residents…”

The memorandum also notes that the county’s Beaver Regional Recreation and Culture Services Master Plan considers banquet facilities with room for that many people to be a “regional facility,” and has agreed to cooperate in a partnership when it comes to exploring the need for such a facility, and the planning of it.

County CAO Bob Beck states in his council report of March 20 that the town has asked the county to cost share the next phase of the project to form a consultation and business plan. The $24,000 cost would be equally divided between the two jurisdictions.

The county has been part of the Tofield Community Centre Steering Committee since its inception in 2014. At the March 20 county council a motion was passed to sign the agreement.
