Over 200 attend public meeting to hear incinerator expert at Ryley – protest next day at Stephen Mandel’s election office

Those opposing a bio-medical waste incinerator at Ryley took their fight another step further Thursday night with an open house featuring Dr. Paul Connett, a medical waste expert who came to provide testimony to well over 200 people. Many stuffed the donation box on their way out the door last Thursday night after hearing what he had to say.

The group leading the charge against the establishment of an incinerator by G-M Pearson then took Connett to the steps of Health Minister Stephen Mandel’s campaign headquarters in southwest Edmonton to ask Mandel that all medical waste be sent to the incinerator at Swan Hills, which is operating at 40 per cent capacity.

Mandel was at a function in Calgary and unavailable. But two staff members from the office left the building and didn’t return while the protestors were outside.
