Pan Am Games Gold medal winners have Tofield area connection

There are two Tofield area connections to the Pan American Games being held in Toronto from July 10-26, ironically both having to do with the sport of shooting.

Former Tofieldite Lynda Kiejko won two gold medals, one in 10 meter air pistol and one in 25 m. air pistol. Amanda Chudoba-Obrigewitch won gold in trapshooting.

Kiejko is a former local resident, having been raised partly in Tofield while her father Bill Hare was the United Church minister and ran the Beaver Pastoral Charge from 1985 to 1991. As well, Kiejko’s father represented Canada in shooting at the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City, and the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.
