C.W. Sears raises $2,500 for local family – School BBQ initiative; donations possible for fire victims through trust fund and FCSS

FireBBQ-Family

C.W. Sears and Tofield School students showed their solidarity with four students in one family who lost their home to fire in August by buying hot dogs and hamburgers cooked and served by adult volunteers.

The event was open to the public, and was the brainchild of teacher’s assistant at C.W. Sears, May Korobko.

“She found out there was a fire and the kids and mom lost everything,” explained May’s daughter, Jennifer. “Mom and I went to businesses and got donations,” to make the barbecue happen.

Jennifer said they had “just one week to pull it off.”

May explained that $1,800 was raised with pre-sales alone.

That included the students at C.W. Sears and up to Grade 8 at Tofield School.

“The rest were bought by the high school students. They came over and picked up all the food and took it back (to eat).”
