Tofield group to continue preparing for refugees

The group attempting to spearhead the bringing in of a refugee family to Tofield are continuing their quest despite some apparent setbacks.

A meeting was held last Friday night that ended in people volunteering in a number of capacities to help a family. The needs are many and varied and people with the ability to speak Arabic, teach English, navigate the document journey and recruit help in the community all came forward.



This, despite the fact that since the government of Canada has now brought in its pledged 25,000 Syrian refugees, the process may have cooled down somewhat and possibly take more time.

Deanne Stauffer and Mark Loewen helped spearhead the initiative, showing a video of the tragedy of refugees in war torn and displaced regions of the world, of which the Syrians are simply the latest of millions in this situation… for more see the March 8/16 Mercury
