Loose Ends by Carol Livingstone – Winter People

Some people out there really enjoy winter.

They welcome it, crying Hooray instead of muttering Humbug. They own outdoor toys, like skis, sleds and noisy snowmobiles, and actually use them for something other than hanging laundry on. Blizzards bring on happy dances because these storms result in deeper snow, all the better to play in.

I don’t know any of these Winter People but sometimes I envy them, these embracers of all things cold, worshippers of the white stuff. Being out in it, having a good time, must make the six month deep-freeze we usually endure annually go by much faster.

Conversely, a winter like this one, with very little snow and above normal temperatures, must come under the title of Real Bummer. Depression probably sets in whenever they see their toys just sitting there, lonely and unused.
