Students learn to navigate the perils of driving

Driving-Simulation
Students in Beaver County were given the opportunity to learn how to navigate the perils of driving through simulation and actual road practice.

These safe driving events were held in May with the Beaver County Traffic Safety Committee hosting 36 students at three youth safe driving sites. The Canadian Traffic Education Centre (CTEC) provided assistance and the events were funded through the Alberta Safety Fund.

Enhancing awareness on the part of young drivers in order to reduce accidents and their severity – and thereby reduce injuries and deaths – is a key motivation for these events.

Young drivers have the highest casualty rates even though they represent only a small percentage of people behind the wheel.

Between 2010 and 2014, 226 young drivers and motorcyclists between the ages of 14 and 24 have been killed and 12,883 injured.

Crash rates are especially high … for more see the May 25/16 Mercury
