Tofield Arena fire contained quickly thanks to great work by fire department

Arena fire 2A fire reported early last Friday morning at the Tofield Arena was quickly contained thanks to the fast work of the Tofield Fire Department.

While an official cause has not been determined, the town’s Assistant CAO Jeff Edwards says the likely suspect is a port-a-potti outside the arena’s east side entry way used by people enjoying the amenities in the sports grounds.

However, how this structure came to be on fire is still under investigation. A Facebook photo taken about 5 a.m. showed the exterior fire had damaged the outer wall revealing the interior dressing room located behind it.

“The fire department responded quite promptly and extinguished the fire,” said Edwards. “It leads us to believe it was the port-a-potti on the east end,” which has been there for about four years.
