Tofield mill rate same as 2011 despite spending rise – Growth in commercial sector offsets increase

The Town of Tofield Council has approved a 2012 budget and mill rate for purposes of income tax levying.

The council has kept the total mill rate the same as the previous year, despite the fact that spending has gone up by 3.7 per cent since that time.

In a press release, this was attributed to the increase in non-residential development within the town.

The 2012 municipal budget calls for spending of $3,816,843, up by 3.7 per cent over 2011. This is offset by funding sources of $$1,974,119, with $1,842,723 remaining to be raised through taxes.
