Playground project asks for financial help

While Tofield Mayor Nabil Chehayeb did not dispute the need for a new playground at C.W. Sears School; he did disagree with the federal and provincial governments downloading their financial responsibilities onto local municipalities for such projects during a discussion at last Monday’s council meeting.

While Chehayeb agreed with playground society chairperson Cheryl McCartney that the playground has to be replaced, he wanted her to understand the town’s position, and need to balance many needs, establish top priorities, and be accountable to all taxpayers. “Our resources are very limited.”
