Storm over Beaver County one day prior to the 25th Anniversary of the Edmonton Tornado

People were a little nervous in Beaver County and the Tofield area when a storm passed over that created funnel clouds a day before the 25th anniversary of the Edmonton Tornado which killed 27 on July 31, 1987.

Although there was a fair amount of damage and a lot of trees were lost, there have been no reports of injuries – just a lot of fear.

Below see the funnel cloud caught by former Tofield Mercury staffer Colleen McGale. “I am 1 km south of Twp Rd 510 on RR 203,” says the photographer. “I was looking east/north-east, towards Tofield.”

As it happened photo snapped by Rhonda Yourston. Healthy tree pulled right out of the ground, landing on truck and blocking road at 51 Street and 52 Avenue.
