Natasha Gacek one of eight remarkable young citizens bestowed with Queens Jubilee medal

‘No’ is one word that is not in Natasha Gacek’s vocabulary.
That is a great thing because if it was, the 18-year-old Tofield resident would not have been able to bring such joy, immeasurable happiness, and intangible qualities and benefits to family members, her friends and colleagues, and residents of the community over the past four years.

This exceptional woman and volunteer extraordinaire has enriched the lives of many people since putting down roots in Tofield. For her outstanding contributions and unselfish efforts, Gacek has been formally recognized and honoured, she recently accepted the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal from Alberta’s Lt. Governor Donald Ethell.
“It was a real honour,” states Gacek, who was one of eight young Albertans to receive the service award.

A special ceremony was held at Government House in Edmonton on June 12th. Even though the prestigious event was a bit intimidating for Gacek due to the number of dignitaries, television camera crews and journalists in attendance, it was an unforgettable day she was able to share with her parents, two siblings and cousin.

Following the ceremony, recipients and guests attended a special luncheon and Gacek thought it was really neat to have been recognized and appreciated for her volunteer efforts. Gacek, a previous winner of a citizenship award, was selected to represent her high school, and apply for the medal, which recognizes good citizenship, leadership, community service and volunteerism. Each of the medal recipients also received $5,000 for their personal development and general education.
“Throughout her reign, Queen Elizabeth II has been motivated by one simple, yet powerful motto: I serve,” stated Lt. Gov. Ethell.
“These remarkable young citizens have already proven that they are driven by the same commitment to serving others and I have every confidence that they will continue to share their strength, compassion, and leadership for many years to come.”
