New Dentist returns to his Tofield roots

Dentist Albert Voravong definitely comes from interesting roots.

As we sit in the reception area of his office which opened just over a month ago, we hear the familiar rumble of a train passing just north of his Parkstone Plaza location.

The charismatic 29-year-old points across the tracks to the red roofed building, the former site of the Tofield hospital. “I was born there.”

The railway plays a key part in the Voravong story as his parents, who escaped the
communist regime in Laos in the mid-70’s, were fortunate enough to “live on the banks” for a year before being allowed to immigrate to Canada.

Living hand to mouth over a diner in Ontario, Albert’s dad heard there was work in Alberta, and jumped on the next train heading West. For some reason, he got off the train, and was welcomed with open arms by Ken Zook.
