Councillor objects to construction of road costing almost $1 million for the benefit of oil and gas companies

Beaver County Council passed a road construction priority policy for 2012-2016 at its mid-February meeting. However, one councillor objected to the county spending almost $1 million to upgrade six miles of road local residents complain is being “pounded out” by oil and gas trucks.

Councillor Dennis Miciak (Division 4) said oil and gas companies should use the roads the county has assigned for their trucks, not cater to them by upgrading roads like Twp. Rd. 462.

The adopted policy listed criteria used to prioritize the road projects, including safety, road integrity, road maintenance, volume of traffic, type and source of traffic, and connectivity to the municipal or provincial roads.
