Battle River-Wainwright election candidates

Amber Greenleese – Liberal Party candidate: Amber  is 26 and was born and raised in Edmonton. 

She works as a central bank teller in Edmonton.  She attended Grant MacEwan University and completed the Travel and Tourism program after spending her early 20s travelling the world.

Amber would consider moving to Antarctica solely to adopt a penguin and like most Albertans knows there is nothing better than a long summer day at the cabin. Amber says she believes Alberta is one of the greatest places in the world to live and hopes the people of our province vote for the future in the upcoming election.

Doug Griffiths – Progressive Conserva-tive candidate: Doug Griffiths was first elected as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta (MLA), in the constituency of Wain-wright, in a by-election on April 8, 2002. At the age of 29, he was the youngest MLA to serve the province. Doug is now in his third term of representing the constituency that has become Battle River-Wainwright.

During the ten years Doug has been in government, he has worked on numerous committees and served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Solicitor General and Public Security and the Minister of Finance and Enterprise. He currently serves as Minister of Municipal Affairs.

Doug lives in Ardrossan with his wife Sue and their two boys Austin and Brady. His love of the rural lifestyle began in the ranching community of Corona-tion, where he was raised. He left the community to earn degrees in philosophy and education at the University of Alberta.

Midge Lambert – Alberta Party candidate: Midge Lambert is a life-long Albertan with a passion for rural Alberta.

She is a mother, a grandmother, a retired small business owner and a landowner living in the beautiful Battle River valley in east central Alberta. Her roots go deep in Alberta whose grandfather homesteaded near Stettler in 1916.

She owned and operated a small catering and camp cook business for 35 years, and has worked throughout the province, from Rainbow Lake to Pincher Creek, and every place in between until she retired in 2007. 
She also sits on the Board of the Battle River Watershed Alliance, and is the President of the Kelsey Drama Club.

Dave Nelson – Wildrose Alliance: Dave Nelson is a 4th generation rancher, his family farm is in the community of Metiskow. Dave is active in numerous community groups such as the Metiskow Agricul-tural Society, Hughen-den Lions Club, Czar Curling Club, Metiskow Discing Club and 4H.

Dave has always been a strong fighter for property rights and was one of the founding members of the Responsible Firearm Owners of Alberta. He served on the board for many years in numerous capacities including President and Vice-President.

Dave is Vice Chair of the Buffalo Trail Public Schools where he has been proud to serve for the past seven years representing many small schools including the Apple Centre in Amisk.

Dave is very committed to ensure that the constituents voices of Battle River – Wain-wright are once again heard.

Terry Zawalski – NDP candidate: Terry Zawal-ski, 54, works at housing homeless and low in-come seniors. She knows first hand what a serious crisis the lack of continuing care is creating for shelters, lodges, hospitals, and the seniors themselves when adequate care is just not available.

In previous years, Terry worked with the Indian Association of Alberta and Treaty 8 as a project coordinator, and as a youth worker. Throughout her working life Terry has always strove to help create improvements in the lives of her fellow Albertans.

Terry is a lifelong Albertan. Her grandparents were homesteaders in the Athabasca region.  She has lived and worked in High Prairie, Driftpile, and Calgary. She currently lives in Edmonton.
