Editorial – Best Brought Out in Fundraising Drive
Tragedy strikes many people in many different ways. One of them is the news that they, or someone they love, has been stricken with cancer.
But there are people who, no matter how many lemons they are dealt with in this life, do their darndest to make the best lemonade possible.
The trail riders in the Wild Pink Yonder group, and all their volunteers, are just such people. They are raising money to battle breast cancer through research to isolate the gene that causes this dread disease.
Jane Hurl, founder of WPY, was diagnosed and treated for breast cancer in 2006. Many others receive this diagnosis every year.
“That’s why we ride,” she said, to fund this genetic research. In the three previous trail rides, $330,000 has been raised to look for a cure.
Hurl believes this is an exciting time to be funding genetic research, ever since scientists have unlocked the human genome.
