Sgt. Jim Warren retires; career overview

The community is used to seeing his face in the performance of his duty and volunteering for worthy causes. But the official service is done as of last Friday for Tofield Detachment Commander Sgt. Jim Warren, who took his retirement after over 40 years of service in the RCMP.

Warren joined the Mounties at the tender age of 20. The joke was that he looked so young people in the communities he worked in thought he must have been 12 when he signed up to serve.

“I was a pretty skinny kid,” he says, adding with a nostalgic tone. “So this is my whole life.”

In those days, Mounties joined up as young men. These days, many don’t come into the force until they are well into their 30s and sometimes even their 40s, something almost unheard of back in Warren’s early days as a police officer.

Warren grew up in British Columbia but all the postings in this province over the years have made Alberta his home.
