Alan Chessell, Service Officer for the Royal Canadian Legion, Tofield Branch holds the poppy tray he left at The Tofield Mercury Friday. Legion members went up and down main street delivering trays of poppies, the Legion’s annual fundraiser prior to Remembrance Day on November 11.

The traditional Royal Canadian Legion poppy campaign kicked off across the country on Friday, Oct. 26.

In Tofield, Legion members made their way up and down main street with wreaths, lays and poppies for various local businesses to get the campaign underway.

Alan Chessell, Service Officer, and Brian Donovan, Past-President, Royal Canadian Legion, Tofield Branch, made the rounds of businesses on Friday morning, along with their fellow members.

This marks the beginning of the time when the sacrifices of men and women in the World Wars and other military campaigns, both past and present, are solemnly observed by Canadian citizens.
