5th Annual Kimmett Cup raises funds to help benefit others
On Jan. 19, current and former residents of Tofield Mike Kauffman, Ryan Wenger, Craig Wiens and Steve Williams convened in Cochrane, Alberta to participate in the 5th annual Kimmett Cup.
Their team, the Tofield Snow Geese, was one of 48 teams that played in the 3 on 3 co-ed pond hockey tournament.
The event was created in honour of Lindsay Kimmett who was tragically killed in a vehicle accident on Feb. 17, 2008. Lindsay was the granddaughter of Merlin and Betty Stauffer who are residents of Tofield.
Each year the tournament raises money to help benefit others. This year, the Kimmett Cup partnered with Martin Parnell’s Hockey Quest 500 to help raise money for the organization Right to Play. Hockey Quest 500 was an attempt to set the Guinness Book of World Records for the most participants in an exhibition hockey game.
Each Kimmett Cup participant played a 10 minute shift to help achieve this goal. The proceeds of this year’s tournament will help fund participation in sports programs for children in Benin, Africa.
