BMS “run a pretty good operation” – Strilchuk at town hall meeting

The concerns surrounding Beaver Municipal Solutions and its Class 2 regional municipal landfill at Ryley had more to do with compensating member municipalities and residents than any environmental issues. The town hall meeting on the two landfills in and around the village held Wednesday night heard few complaints about BMS’s environmental operations.
BMS was formerly known as Beaver Regional Waste Management Services, and is run by a commission composed of a representative from each of the five local municipalities.
The meeting was hosted by RPAC,or Ryley Public Advisory Committee. RPAC member Janet Winsness gave some history surrounding BMS, noting the village approved the establishment of a municipal landfill at Ryley to service the needs of the local municipalities. But Ryley residents were not asked when a decision was made to expand the landfill and accept waste from the surrounding region, including Edmonton.
