Arson and vandalism at Amisk Creek Church and cemetery
Arson and vandalism took place last Saturday at the Amisk Creek Lutheran Church.
The alarm was raised at 5:45 p.m. after smoke was seen coming from the back portion of Amisk Creek Church, located on Twp. Rd. 502 and R.R. 183.
“Quick response by the Tofield Fire Depart-ment prevented the fire from spreading,” said Vivien Patterson, who reported the vandalism to the Mercury. “A can of paint thinner was found at the site.
“Upon inspection of the nearby cemetery, it was noted that a 98-year-old gravestone had been removed from the gravesite and used in an attempt to vandalize other grave markers in the cemetery.”
