Tofield athletes do well at provincial track and field championships in Calgary
Senior High Track and Field Provincials were held by the Alberta Schools Athletic Association on June 7 and 8 in Calgary with two local senior high athletes competing at the provincial level.
Tofield School Grade 12 students, Trey McCartney and Jonny Smook proudly represented their school in the provincial competition.
The boys, who had been practicing since the beginning of May, competed at a variety of different levels including: local eliminations, counties, areas, zones, and provincials during the season.
McCartney earned first place at local eliminations, counties, areas and in zones for high jump to qualifying him for provincials. Smook won first in local eliminations in both triple jump and long jump events, first in counties for both events, first for triple jump and second for long jump at areas, first for triple jump and second for long jump at zones.
The athletes made it to the provincial level where only 16 competitors from across Alberta qualified for each category. Smook competed in senior boys long jump and triple jump placing an exciting sixth place in the province in both his events.
