Vines growing out of tomato plants “freak of nature,” says Tofield resident

Terri Wohlfarth has a word for the phenomenon that caused odd growth in her tomatoes – nothing short of bizarre.

She never expected to find vines growing from seeds inside those ordinary looking tomatoes purchased at the grocery store.

The vine plants grew so big they eventually burst through the fleshy outer layer of its host, no doubt seeking light and air.

Wohlfarth said she noticed “some funny things under the skin,” …
