Willow tree project using biosolids explained at public information meeting
About 50 people attended an open house to explain the parameters of the “Biosolids Demonstration Project: A Growing Opportunity,” the evening of Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Ryley Legion.
Beaver Municipal Solutions (BMS) CAO Pierre Breau acknowledged some responsibility for the initial negative reaction to the project by local residents, both from the village and within Beaver County. As the local municipal landfill, Breau said a better public relations job could have been done in contacting affected landowners.
However, an article published by an Edmonton newspaper informed local residents before BMS had the chance, he said.
Breau said the type of project being proposed is the wave of the future as the standard practice of dumping waste into landfills is morphing into finding ways of preventing the need to expand landfills.
