Long time Councillor Harold Conquest vying for Mayor

Candidates for local municipal government signed their election papers before noon on Monday, Sept. 23. The election will take place on Monday, Oct. 21.

In the Town of Tofield, incumbent mayor Nabil Chehayeb is being challenged by deputy mayor Harold Conquest for the mayor’s chair. Tofield town councillors were all elected by acclamation for four positions, including incumbent Deb Dueck, as well as Neil Brodie, Barry Robinson, and Cathy Brown. Incumbent Lorraine Donovan is not running again and Larry Tiedemann resigned as councillor last March.

Ryley Village Council candidates include incumbents Brian Ducherer and Cyndy Heslin, plus Andy Kowalski, Terrance Magneson, Kimberly Murphy, Peter Presley, Lavonne Svenson, Lorraine Warren-Nimeck, and Edward Zackaruk. Incumbents Jorge Mendoza, Victor Istace and Lyndie Nickel are not running again.

For Holden Village Council, nominations received for five positions include incumbents Mark Giebelhaus, Christine Mackay, and Bernie Marko, plus Donald Thompson. Due to insufficient nominations, further nomination papers by candidates will be accepted on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

For the Battle River School Division, in Beaver County East Incumbent Rebecca Heiberg of the Kingman area is being challenged by Zsuzsanna Hemp-erger of Tofield. In Beaver County West, Current trustee Jim Fielding is retiring; candidate Tracey Boast Radley has been elected by acclamation.

Returning Officer for Beaver County Margaret Jones revealed the unofficial results for nominations held Monday, Sept. 23. They include the following: Division 1- Kevin Smook and Larry Tiedemann. Current Reeve Bob Young has chosen not to run again after two terms in office. Division 2 – Chuck McBurney and incumbent Sieko Scott. Division 3 – Gene Hrabec, Charles Magneson and incumbent Ron Yarham. Division 4 – Dale Collison, and incumbent Dennis Miciak. Division 5 – Incumbent Arnold Hanson – elected by acclamation.
