Work visa denied for Dr. expected to start in Tofield in 2014
With everyone on the west side of Beaver County anticipating the arrival of two new doctors in early 2014, the Tofield Health Care Centre and recruitment committee were terribly disappointed with the news that Dr. Maphosa’s work visa has been denied and she will not be practicing in Tofield any time soon.
“It was very discouraging and very unexpected,” said Co-Chair of the Tofield and Area Hospital Foundation Darren Erickson, who learned the news last Wednesday.
“No specific reason was given (for the rejection).”
The good news is that despite the loss of Dr. Maphosa, who had agreed
to practice in Tofield, the recruitment company (often called headhunters) Global Medics came up with another file on a doctor practicing in Canada who wants to relocate to Alberta.
Amazingly, the Hospital Foundation and recruitment committee was giving a tour of the Tofield Health Care facilities to Dr. Balal Rizvi the very next day after hearing about the disappointing visa denial of Dr. Maphosa.
