Tofield man sees a new community hall in Tofield’s future

“It takes a community to build a community hall,” says Kevin Iverson, “and we can’t expect the taxpayers to pay for it, we have got to start fundraising.”

The Town employee and volunteer fireman says he is hoping he can get a group together in the new year, and initiate a plan to eventually construct a large, functional community hall that everyone can enjoy.

This may be one man’s mission so far, but Iverson sees all the organizations in town working together to raise the funding, and grants are available as well.

“I talked to (MLA) Jacquie Fenske at the Fireman’s Ball, and she said we have to get our ducks in a row. We need a committee, a vision and a budget.”

Iverson said he would like to begin a buzz around town, and then after Christmas when everyone has more time, the work should begin. “We need to set up a committee and then approach council.”

He expects the project to cost between $2 or $3 million.

“Tofield is going to grow. We have to build for the future.” Iverson said he thinks the present community hall should be left where it is and could be taken over by perhaps the seniors. “I don’t know if they want it or if the town would would want that, but the baby boomers are going to be retiring and the seniors could use the room (in the future).
