County grader operators ask for discretion in snow removal for seniors and other persons with mobility issues
Some grader operators in Beaver County want to be able to help out seniors and disabled persons who find themselves snowed in and unable to leave their property.
The Level of Service Policy for Snow Clearing was up for discussion at the committee of the whole (CoW) meeting Dec. 9. The current policy came into effect in 2012, and public works has asked for feedback from the grader operators on how it is working.
Director of Public Works Darby Dietz presented the committee with three suggestions for consideration, including having some discretion to help people in certain cases.
“Many of the operators live and work in the same area and know the residents personally,” states the public works report. “They are aware of residents who no longer are able to clear their driveway. They could be seniors, persons with disabilities, or persons temporarily unable to complete this themselves.
