Lorraine Warren-Nimeck resigned as mayor last week, switching places with Brian Ducherer who becomes the new mayor of Ryley. Warren-Nimeck is now the new deputy mayor in place of Ducherer. The dramatic switch took place after a contentious council meeting where residents complained they were not allowed to speak their minds.

Council made the decision last Friday to elect Ducherer as mayor and Warren-Nimeck as deputy mayor. The change was unofficially proclaimed on a local Ryley-based website, and the village council placed a large ad in this week’s Mercury confirming the rumours.

“Council decided that, due to Brian’s experience, he would be best suited in the role of mayor,” said Village of Ryley Council, as all members of council except Ducherer were first-term councillors. “Lorraine, as deputy mayor, will support Brian in this important function and gain experience in council affairs. We wish both Brian and Lorraine every success in assuming their new roles.”

Despite her political neophyte status, Warren-Nimeck seemed to be doing well as mayor, especially during the recent Ryley Hotel fire where she spent many hours facilitating community efforts and speaking on behalf of the village.
