Popular MP Kevin Sorenson to seek Conservative nomination for this area’s new riding of Battle River-Crowfoot
Crowfoot MP Kevin Sorenson has stated his intention to run for the Conservative nomination in the next federal election. The newly created Battle River-Crowfoot riding in which he plans to run will include the Tofield, Ryley and Holden areas.
If nominated, local voters will have Sorenson for their Conservative candidate in the 2015 election, not the current local MP Leon Benoit.
Federal riding boundary changes, effective as of the next election, have created a veritable “wall street shuffle” when it comes to where Members of Parliament are going to run in the next election.
Parts of Benoit’s Vegreville-Wainwright riding will now be melded into the new Battle River-Crowfoot riding where Sorenson plans to be elected. The riding of Vegreville-Wainwright virtually disappears into newly created ridings like Lakeland to the northeast and Sherwood Park-Fort Saskatchewan to the northwest.
This last new riding is where Benoit will run, if he decides to seek the upcoming nomination. As of last Friday, he has not made that decision. For more see the April 15/14 issue of the Tofield Mercury
