New management, ideas, help needed or Satellites could fold – GM Thom
Team has the players, just needs people who love senior hockey to help out
Tofield Satellites had its AGM on June 26, and the long-time group has decided that it will fold the Senior AA hockey team prior to the upcoming 2014/15 Battle River Hockey League (BRHL) season if it can’t secure more help.
“Our board is getting worn out,” said General Manager Jeremy Thom. “We need community help. It can’t be just the same six people, or whatever, it has been for the past 10 years.”
Thom said he has verbal commitments from many players and the coaches from last year when Tofield was first overall in regular season play. But he warned, the team is down to about half the board members it used to have.
“We also need a game-day committee that can handle the gate, time clock, 50/50 tickets, announcing and music.”
Satellites only have 10 home games plus playoffs, so a group of hockey friends or even a large hockey-friendly family could take on the game-time responsibilities as outings to make the winter pass by faster and with more fun. It could be a good bonding experience and a way to fight cabin fever.
