Bio incinerator protest by Ryley area residents at Legislature

Residents of Ryley and Beaver County travelled to the Alberta Legislature Friday to protest the proposed G-M Pearson biomedical waste incinerator facility under consideration for the county’s industrial park just east of the village.

Over 30 people braved the frigid cold that morning to wave placards stating messages like: “Biomedical waste plus incineration equals dioxins, furons, cancer,” and “No need for another facility, Swan Hills wants and needs all biomedical waste.”

The protest at the Legislature attracted media from Edmonton, with television broadcasts coming as early as noon the same day.
