Appeal denied: board upholds county’s rejection of bio-medical waste incinerator in its industrial park
After two days of hearings, the Beaver County Subdivision and Development Appeal Board rendered its decision and denied G-M Pearson Environmental Inc.’s appeal.
Beaver County had refused to grant the company a development permit to build a bio-medical waste incinerator in its industrial park. G-M Pearson appealed that decision on the grounds that the county’s objections regarding water and safety issues were wrong.
Local citizens turned out in droves for the hearing, which ran over two days, April 23 and May 7. The appeal board rendered its decision on April 15, denying the appeal and upholding the county’s rejection.
G-M Pearson argued that the proposed facility was a General Industrial Type 1 facility, not the Type 3 categorized by the county. But the board called this irrelevant as both are discretionary uses within the county’s bylaws. The appeal board heard about several issues from people at the hearing including emissons, water supply, safety, and traffic to and from the facility.
