Man in 2014 armed standoff north of Tofield given 12 years

An armed standoff between RCMP and a man they were trying to apprehend north of Tofield on Jan. 6, 2014 has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Michael Johnson was found on an acreage north of Tofield as police searched for a man who had stolen a gun and uttered threats to another man in Mundare.

The police found the man on an acreage at R.R. 192 and Twp. Rd. 522.

There were shots fired and then Johnson tried to flee in a stolen truck. However, in that attempt he ran over an RCMP officer from the Vegreville detachment. Another officer was shot in the arm.
