Incinerator appeal fundraiser raises $15,000 – packed Holden community hall represents people grateful project stopped

The Holden Community Hall was packed with grateful well wishers Sunday, Nov. 1 for a highly successful fundraiser to help out those who fought against the G-M Pearson bio-medical waste incinerator and won.

Albertans Against Irresponsible Development (AAID) opposed the placing of the incinerator in Beaver County’s Equity Industrial Park adjacent to Ryley, citing health and safety concerns for the village and surrounding area.

AAID members spent their own funds to hire lawyers, advertise and gather up information to fight G-M’s appeal when the county rejected a development permit for the project.

The evening in Holden was an attempt to give back in financial terms, but also to express the public’s gratitude for the work of a handful of people in stopping the company from moving into the area.
