Pontiacs look unstoppable up 2-0 on Satellites
After an 8-5 road loss on Saturday to start its best-of-7 semi-final playoff series against Bonnyville Pontiacs, Tofield Satellites were hoping for a better result Sunday before a home crowd of around 100 – but it didn’t work out that way.
Before the contest started, North Central Hockey League (NCHL) President George Vanberg was on hand to present the league MVP award (as voted by the players) to Tofield’s Scott Effert. A double winner, Effert was also voted Most Sportsmanlike player in the NCHL. With the awards, he also received $200.
That was where the fun ended for Tofield, as the powerhouse Pontiacs completely outplayed the home team en route to an 11-2 win.
Bonnyville netminder Joshua Paul was in complete control, and his excellent positioning allowed him to find the puck on nearly every Tofield shot. Tofield scored its first goal in the rout on what seemed like Paul’s first rebound given up. The second was a breakaway from Ryan Olson to Scott Effert, but the Satellites were well behind in the game.
