County looks for alternate revenue sources – increased police enforcement one recommendation

The county’s long-term financial future was examined by MNP LLP and presented to the committee of the whole at its Nov. 2 meeting. With the drop in linear assessment, the county is looking for alternate revenue sources.

One suggestion given in a recent study was to increase police enforcement.

Chris Lavin, a member of MNP’s advisory services branch, spoke at length concerning many facets of Beaver County’s long-range financial affairs while presenting the results of a study done by the consulting firm.

Like many other counties, Lavin said Beaver County is experiencing a “shift in assessments,” with non-residential dropping.

“It does have an impact on tax assessment and bears the brunt of it,” he said, with growth of 2. 8 per cent in residential homes.
