After an 8-5 road loss on Saturday to start its best-of-7 semi-final playoff series against Bonnyville Pontiacs, Tofield Satellites were hoping for a better result Sunday before a home crowd of around 100 – but it didn’t work out that way.

Before the contest started, North Central Hockey League (NCHL) President George Vanberg was on hand to present the league MVP award (as voted by the players) to Tofield’s Scott Effert. A double winner, Effert was also voted Most Sportsmanlike player in the NCHL. With the awards, he also received $200.

Packers-Robbery

Tofield Packers has been operating in the community for the last 21 years as of this March, but owner/operator Dale Erickson says it’s the first time anyone has robbed his business in all that time.

“It’s coming up 21 years now so we’ve been fortunate,” he said, there have been no previous robberies. The wait may have been a long one, but when it came it was certainly dramatic.
