Tofield Ag Society will get its grant
Earlier this month Alberta Agriculture reviewed funding to agricultural societies and considered cutting the funding but the minister’s office now says they won’t reduce the grants this year.
Every year Tofield Ag Society (TAS) relies on a $40,000 grant from the provincial government to help operate the Tofield Arena.
The Town of Tofield and Beaver County match the $40,000 grant. The funds were supposed to be released June 2017 but were held up and it became uncertain whether the agricultural societies would even see the money.
“I am pleased that we have decided that the funds budgeted for Ag Societies will not be reduced in this fiscal year,” Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Oneil Carlier told the Tofield Mercury in a prepared statement Sept. 28.
