Ryley registers a 15-per-cent tax drop

Although the Village of Ryley has seen property values grow enormously, taxes assessed to residents is at a 13-year low and residential mill rates are almost one-third of what was charged in 2004.

Compared to just last year, Ryley taxes have dropped over 15 percent. A $200,000 residential property in 2004 was assessed $4,358.20 and in 2018 the same valued property is being assessed $1,572.04.

That is a small part of the information overload sent in paper form to each Ryley household earlier in 2018, including charts and graphs simplifying the taxation process in a transparent way. Normally taxes go up according to property assessments, yet since 2008 Ryley’s total assessments have climbed over 45 percent including over 35 per cent residential.

“The former council was keen on capital projects, but this new council was focused on delivering tax cuts while continuing the same level of programming,” said CAO Michael Simpson.
